"IN THE MINDS of the mortals of Urantia--that being the name of your world--there exists great confusion respecting the meaning of such terms as God, divinity, and deity. Human beings are still more confused and uncertain about the relationships of the divine personalities designated by these numerous appellations. Because of this conceptual poverty associated with so much ideational confusion, I have been directed to formulate this introductory statement in explanation of the meanings which should be attached to certain word symbols as they may be hereinafter used in those papers which the Orvonton corps of truth revealers have been authorized to translate into the English language of Urantia." - Urantia Book Foreward Excerpt - Click for Book

LATE NOTES:

as of June 27th, 2008

IC08 Address: Here is where we are staying on campus and where to go to register:
Covel Commons, 200 De Neve Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90095, Phone: 888-825-5305

Basic Directions: UCLA is located in West LA and is right next to Westwood Village, being bordered by West Sunset Blvd to the North, Hilgard Ave to the East, Veteran Ave to the West and Wilshire Blvd to the South. IC08 will be held in Covel Commons which is in the Northwest part of the campus off of Sunset Blvd and De Neve Drive.

If you are driving to the campus:
Parking passes available for $9.00 a day. A parking structure is nearby our event. Passes can be purchased daily or up to 5 days at a time. Cars not having a pass will be ticketed. There is free limited parking (approximately 30 minutes) on registration day.

Commuter meals:
Meal tickets for commuters who wish to dine at the dining room with other attendees will be available to purchase in the store. There are also several fast food restaurants on campus and regular restaurants nearby in the town of Westwood.

Locating the Accommodations:
To check out accommodations go here: http://www.housing.ucla.edu/roomsignup-07/map.htm. The conference activities are in Covel Commons which is where all of our activities will be. The Semi-private and Private accommodations will be in the Sunset Village, a very short distance from Covel Commons. Economy rooms are in Dykstra Hall which is a 5 minute walk to Covel Commons.

Please note: If you selected Youthshare accommodations for your child it means that you are sharing a bed with them or they are sleeping on the floor of your room. If the child will be sleeping on the floor, please remember to bring a sleeping bag as they are not provided.

The Light Day, July 4th:
There are no planned excursions. July 4th is a light day with mostly study groups planned. Here are some sites that list fun things going on in the area:

July 4th Fireworks at nearby Marina Del Rey:
The traditional fireworks extravaganza over the main channel in Marina del Rey will be presented on Friday, July 4th, starting promptly at 9pm. This event is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors. The fireworks are choreographed to patriotic music, which will be broadcast in sync with the pyrotechnic display over FM radio KXLU, 88.9 on the dial. The music will be relayed over loudspeakers in Chace Park for those watching there. Call 310-305-9545 for more information. Street Closures and Map of street closures

Transportation to, from and on Campus:
For inexpensive public transportation to and from LAX click here: http://www.lawa.org/lax/LAXFlyAway-Westwood.html

If you take this option you will have to get from where to bus drops you off on the South central end of campus to where the conference will be held on the Northwest end of campus. This involves catching two shuttle buses, one from Parking Structure 32 (where the bus drops you off) to the Northeast side of campus and then on to another shuttle that goes to the Northwest side where Sunset Village is located. It's obviously a big campus. This option is affordable but more complicated. The good news is that the campus has a shuttle bus service.

There are many shuttles that go from LAX to UCLA as it is a major destination. These will take you directly to Sunset Village where you want to be. For instance, on Prime Time Shuttle a roundtrip fare for three people is $42.00. Here is the link for more information: http://www.primetimeshuttle.com/airportshuttlelax.htm

Another option is Super Shuttle: http://www.supershuttle.com/FareQuote.aspx

Many thanks to Andrea Barnes for the site design! Nice Job Andrea :) cYa

A Pato Banton concert is an event not to be missed and an experience not to be forgotten. Such will be the opening of IC08 -- soul awakening music, a moving story of personal service, and the worshipful inauguration of nearly a week of socialization, workshops, plenaries, and exciting events.

Known for delivering a message that is food for both mind and soul, many have considered Pato's charismatic performance as live theatre. He mixes music with audience dialog on a range of topics including spiritual freedom and religious commitment while keeping the vibes upbeat and fun! Many have said that the positive outlook generated from the stage has changed their lives forever.

Sometimes Pato invites his fans to join him in a prayer circle after the show, where some have cried while sharing their stories of contemplated suicide, isolation after losing a loved one, struggles with substance abuse or how their personal connection with Pato has given them the strength to "Stay Positive" & "Never Give In."

Conference Vision

The essence of Jesus's teachings was love and service (P 1008.1). He taught that service to one's fellows is the highest concept of the brotherhood of spirit believers (P 2017.4), and those who are born of the spirit will show forth the fruits of the spirit in loving service to their fellow creatures (2054.3). Acceptance of His teachings leads us to the recognition that we are all sons and daughters of a loving God and that our attitude towards our fellows should be characterized by loving service. Cultivating an attitude of loving service is the theme of this year's conference. So let us come together in reflection and communion in the spirit to experience the Thrill of loving service.

Said Jesus to his followers, You are to love all men as I have loved you; you are to serve all men as I have served you. (P.2041.6). If you would share the Master's joy, you must share his love. And to share his love means that you have shared his service. (P 1945.2).

Purpose of Conference

The purpose of this conference is to bring the idea and ideals of service to the forefront of the minds of those readers who are associated with the Fifth Epochal Revelation. We hope to raise the awareness that service is a key component of Jesus’ gospel of love for man and God and that we can all serve in some capacity as we go about living our spiritual lives. Our goal then is to entice readers with the thrilling experience of loving service by helping each conference attendee explore the possibilities of living a more service filled life.

In all we hope to come to a better understanding of how service is personal, individual, and spiritually dependent on God. Ultimately we hope attendees will leave this conference with a strong desire to walk that "second mile of free service and liberty loving devotion" (P. 2084.5) and recognize that " the ideal life is one of loving service " (P1206.2).
